Alberta 401 Permit Hearing on Atlantic Coast Pipeline
August 14, 2017 @ 3:30 pm - 10:00 pm
**SHOW UP BETWEEN 3:30 and 4:30 to be sure you secure your speaking spot**
The construction of the Atlantic Coast Pipeline will endanger the lives and safety of countless Virginian citizens and threatens to contaminate state water and irreversibly damage the Virginia landscape. Make your voice heard at the Department of Environmental Quality public hearing as part of the 401 certification process. Say no to the pipeline in your community to protect our water, environment and health.
Show up and be counted! Make your voice heard at the Department of Environmental Quality public hearing!
Wear a blue shirt or your favorite “No Pipeline” shirt and join us at our hospitality room to get talking points, develop your public comment, and enjoy some snacks. Help highlight the importance of water quality by bringing a small amount of water from your house or even a stream, creek, or other body of water that you love. Take it one step further and bring photos to leave with DEQ as part of your testimony!
These enormous infrastructure projects would cross waterways in some of the steepest terrain in the eastern United States. They propose to cross through four major river watersheds in our state: the Potomac, James, New and Roanoke river basins. Both pipelines pose some of the most significant threats to Virginia’s water quality and aquatic environment in decades.
The Department of Environmental Quality could stop these pipeline projects, but it is currently deferring its authority to federal agencies that will give a rubber stamp approval of these projects and the destruction of water resources.
RSVP today to one of the hearings and let us know if you need a ride or can provide transportation for other.
What to bring:
• Some water from your house or body of water you love
o Take it one step further and bring a photo of you with your water to leave with DEQ
• Wear a blue shirt or your favorite “No Pipeline” shirt
• A copy of your public testimony
o If you forget we’ll have materials in our hospitality room you can use to write your comment
• Friends and Family!
o Spread the word and invite your friends and family
Both the Atlantic Coast and Mountain Valley pipelines are dangerous and unnecessary. Along the proposed route of the pipeline, construction and use could cause destruction of the environment, pollution in our water, and gas explosions. This is all for a pipeline to carry gas fracked from the ground that ties Virginia into a dirty fossil fuel future. Join your friends and neighbors at this public hearing to make your voice heard and protect our communities!
