Exploring Architecture: Building a Tipi !

Explore the architecture and engineering of the conical home built by the peoples of the Great Sioux Nation. Raising and placing a tipi is a skill that requires knowledge of rope making and tying, dynamics of airflow and insulation and fire building and safety. 3 knots will be taught in this class- Clove Hitch, Two-Half Hitch and the Taut-Line.
This 3 hour class will delve into all aspects of preparation, construction, raising and enjoying this masterful building and is appropriate for older youth (especially scouts and kinesthetic learners) and adults.
Facilitator:
Chris Ousse, wild plant Enthusiast and active forager. He is the co lead teacher of the Fox Walkers program ( forest learning ) for young children at Fox Haven starting October 5th. Chris is also an Active Drum Circle promoter and facilitator, he works with assisted living residents to elementary school children, bringing the joy of group drumming music, dance and singing together in Frederick, MD. Enjoys cooking together and theatrically telling folk tales and cultural stories with puppets. Loves zero waste life style, and actively fights pollution.
