Oyster Shell Shaking Volunteer Event!
August 25, 2017 @ 9:00 am - 1:00 pm
8/21 UPDATE: This just in! Shell shaking may be on hold for this event, but we will be doing another oyster restoration activity this Friday in its place! Contact CBF’s Oyster Restoration Specialist Patrick Beall at PBeall@cbf.org for more information!
Come help CBF’s MD Oyster Restoration Crew clean and prepare shell for oyster restoration!
“Shell Shaking” is a method of cleaning and preparing recycled oyster shells for baby oysters to live on. Each shell shaking event has the potential to plant nearly 4 million oysters onto sanctuary reefs in the Chesapeake Bay. It is somewhat physical work and not recommend for folks with health concerns. However, it is vital to our oyster restoration operations and an excellent opportunity to help promote the return of an abundant oyster population.
The event takes place outdoors and is subject to change or cancelation due to weather events. Please wear close-toed shoes and bring a water bottle. It is not recommended for folks with health concerns and children under 18 must have adult supervision.
RSVP to CBF’s Oyster Restoration Specialist Patrick Beall at PBeall@cbf.org.
