SFDC Rappahannock Oyster Company Farm Tour

Join Slow Food DC for an exclusive visit of Snail of Approval Winner Rappahannock River Oysters oyster farm, in Topping, VA!
This amazing company resurrected the native Chesapeake Bay oyster, reviving a local industry that was on the verge of collapse. Virginia now leads the entire East Coast in oyster production, thanks to the committment of Rappahannock River Oysters, LLC to preserving our local foods!
Your personalized tour will give you an inside look at Rappahannock’s operation, including learning about the oyster’s lifecycle and its impact on the Chesapeake Bay’s health and future. You’ll also have the opportunity to tour the oyster seed nursery and learn about husbandry, harvest, and the company’s shipping operations.
After the tour, guests will enjoy a half dozen oysters – direct from the source! – and a cocktail/glass of wine on the patio of Rappahannock’s tasting room, Merroir. Stay the afternoon for the views, and enjoy other items from Merroir’s seasonal menu.
