The class will cover the basics of an aquaponics system, including the fish, plants, bacteria, and system design. The class will also discuss how aquaponics can fit in with a more sustainable food system.

Brian Filipowich is the founder and manager of Anacostia Aquaponics, an aquaponics service provider and think tank.
Participants will visit UDC’s Van Ness Campus to see how UDC uses its campus as an urban food hub and green infrastructure system aimed at maximizing the functionality of urban spaces. The visit includes: a 20,000 sq.ft. food-bearing green roof, a redesigned green infrastructure system, a patented aquaponics system, and a nationally certified soil and water analysis lab.
