Roots Cares: Kombucha Demystified with Hex Ferments

April 10, 2017 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Learn to make Kombucha Tea with Shane and Meaghan Carpenter, Food Alchemists and Founder’s of HEX Ferments. A Baltimore based fermented foods company. Meaghan and Shane will take us through the history, process, and benefits of Kombucha fermentation in a visual presentation. Kombucha is a seemingly magical microbial process that transforms sweetened tisanes into something entirely different, sour-sweet, bubbly, probiotic rich and delicious. Kombucha is a time honored and safe way to introduce a living food into your daily diet, easy to make at home and extremely nutritive.

We will go over kombucha brewing basics, tea, flavoring, vessels, sugars as well as advanced kombucha making techniques, bottle conditioning and what to do with all that SCOBY!

There will also be samples of HEX Ferments Kombucha and time for your questions about kombucha, vegetable fermentation and more! HEX Kombucha SCOBYs Kits will be available for sale as well.

Cost: $25 – Class limited to 40 people.

Call 443-535-9321 or stop by Guest Services to sign up. This class is held in Clarksville. *Registration and payment in advance is required, registration will end 24 hours before the class takes place*

HEX Ferments are Maryland-based food alchemists, dedicated to sourcing from local and organic farmers. We believe in creating partnerships with these providers of sustenance to create unique ferments that support our individual health as well as the health of our local foodshed. HEX comes from Hexology folklore that uses signs and symbols to protect relationships, secure the harvest, and ward off the unwelcome. Similarly, fermented foods protect, support, and shield our immune system, digestion, and overall well-being.
